The international conference took place a few days ago “Benedictine landscapes: territory, cultural heritage and spirituality”.”, organised by the Distretto Tecnologico Beni e Attività Culturali - DTC Lazio together with the Lazio Region Tourism Directorate.
Presiding over the proceedings was President of ANCI Lazio, Daniele Sinibaldi.

The initiative focused on the role of Benedictine monasteries in the social and cultural history of the European continent, highlighting how these settlements contributed to the construction of territorial, economic and spiritual networks that are still recognisable today.

In his speech, Sinibaldi recalled how the Benedictine system represents one of the oldest and most solid cultural infrastructures in Europe, a web of places that has influenced mobility, knowledge, economy and community relations for centuries.

The link between these historical paths and contemporary projects was also emphasised, starting with the themes related to the Italian Capital of Culture.
In fact, part of this link stems from the transhumance sheep tracks, linking realities such as the’Abbey of Farfa to the city of’Eagle and the entire Abruzzo region, configuring a network of exchanges that today represents a heritage to be enhanced.

The President highlighted how these historical trajectories dialogue today with the new technologies, These allow cultural landscapes to be read, mapped and interpreted in an innovative way: digital tools, spatial information systems, advanced user models and research infrastructures open up new development perspectives for territories.

The conference was attended by the Director Paolo Giuntarelli (Lazio Region Tourism Directorate) and Fabio Bruni, Coordinator of the research infrastructure of the Lazio DTC, who illustrated the District's path in consolidating an integrated ecosystem between innovation, cultural heritage and territorial enhancement.

ANCI Lazio will continue to support initiatives that foster dialogue between institutions, research and local communities, promoting development models capable of combining memory, identity and innovation.
