The meeting between Anci and a delegation from the Association of Communes of the Seine-et-Marne Department (France) took place on June 3rd in Rome, promoted by Anci national and Anci Lazio to encourage dialogue between local authorities and the exchange of experiences on good local governance practices.
Attending the meeting were: Marco Fioravanti, Mayor of Ascoli Piceno and President of the National Anci Council, Guy Geoffroy President AMF77, Fabrice Maiolino French Consulates in Italy, Anne Chain-Larché Vice-President of the French Senate whilst Stefano Lo Russo Mayor of Turin and Vice-President of ANCI has sent a video message to our French colleagues.
“In a historical phase where the world is marked by wars and tensions, we can build an authentic network that arises from the grassroots: from municipalities, territories, and local communities. Italy and France share a long history, common values, and the same focus on quality of life, culture, heritage, and the central role of communities,” he stated. Marco Fioravanti, Mayor of Ascoli Piceno and President of the National Council of Anci.
“Meetings like today's strengthen these bonds and help create connections that go beyond institutions, giving even more meaning to what I consider the definition of the mayor's role: translating global dynamics into people's everyday lives”.
Fioravanti concluded his speech by recalling that the future of Europe “depends on the ability of municipalities to build networks, bridges and connections, to learn from each other and to develop innovative responses together to the challenges of the present”.
In his message, the vice chairman Lo Russo he recalled the collaborative relationship between France and Italy, highlighting how “the role of local authorities has become fundamental for addressing contemporary challenges and for building concrete opportunities for the benefit of citizens. Cooperation between Italian and French municipalities is developing in multiple areas. Firstly, there is institutional collaboration, which allows for the exchange of good administrative practices and the implementation of joint projects. Through dialogue between administrators and technicians, municipalities can identify innovative solutions to improve public services, land management, sustainable mobility, and the digitalisation of administrations.”.
For the Italian delegation of the Municipalities of Lazio, speaking at the debate were: Irene Mura, as assessor for productive activities for Pomezia Council, Luca Profili Mayor of the Municipality of Bagno Regio, Valentino Mantini Mayor of the Municipality of Cisterna di Latina, Chiara Mestichelli Deputy Mayor of the Municipality of Rieti, Nicola Burrini Mayor of Nettuno Municipality, on the line Riccardo Varone, Mayor of Monterotondo and Vice-President of Anci Lazio.
For the structure, Anci participated in the works Claudia Giovannini, Head of European and International Policy Area. The debate was moderated by the Director General of Anci Lazio. Federico Palla.
The meeting provided an opportunity for dialogue between Italian and French administrators on the topics of local governance, administrative innovation, and the role of municipalities in building increasingly effective public policies that are closer to citizens.
