Rome, 2 April 2026 - A passage defined as “historic” for the Italian local self-government system. The institutional meeting of the Presidents of the Councils of Local Authorities (CAL), promoted by CAL Lazio, was held at the headquarters of the Conference of Legislative Assemblies of the Regions and Autonomous Provinces.

The event, entitled “Local Authorities and LAC: Towards a National Coordination”.”, has brought together representatives from all over Italy with the aim of strengthening the role of the territories in decision-making processes and building a stable network for dialogue between the various regional realities.

The work was opened by the President of CAL Lazio, Luisa Piacentini, who emphasised the importance of launching a shared path capable of enhancing the contribution of local authorities within the institutional system.

During the meeting, a concrete and significant result was achieved: the establishment of a permanent coordination table between the regional CALs. A tool that marks the start of a structured national path, aimed at strengthening the representation of local autonomies and giving greater incisiveness to the territories' requests.

The objective is clear: to build a stable coordination that allows LICs to dialogue more effectively not only with the government, but also with European institutions, bringing the needs and priorities of local realities to the EU level.

The meeting was also attended by Marina Battisti, representing ANCI Lazio, confirming the central role of local authority associations in strengthening the institutional cooperation system.

The comparison between the presidents of the LACs represented a moment for sharing experiences, critical issues and good practices, laying the foundations for a new phase of cooperation between territories. A path that aims to make the dialogue between regions and local authorities more and more structured, while respecting the principles of subsidiarity and institutional cooperation that are at the basis of the LAC system.

The initiative therefore marks the beginning of a common path that aims to strengthen the role of local autonomies, making them protagonists in decision-making processes and in the construction of public policies, also from a European perspective.
