The meeting titled “The Ports of Lazio. Blue Route, fishing and sustainability: a winning combination”, promoted by the Lazio Region and Lazio Innova, took place at the Lazio Region’s stand at the Molo Sanità in Gaeta as part of the “Boat Days – Blu Expo” event, and was intended to be a moment of exchange on the future of the sea, port operations and the sustainable development of coastal territories.
During the event, dedicated to the topics of the Blue Economy and the growth prospects linked to the regional maritime system, he intervened Antonio Di Rocco, Vice-President of ANCI Lazio, which focused on the strategic role of the municipalities in the enhancement of the ports and coastal territories of Lazio.
In his speech, Di Rocco reiterated the importance of ANCI’s action in strengthening institutional dialogue between local authorities, Ministries and the Lazio Region, highlighting how constant dialogue with supranational levels represents an essential tool for providing concrete responses to the territories, especially in strategic sectors such as port operations, fishing, tourism and environmental protection.
“We need shared governance – he emphasized – capable of putting the municipalities and their needs at the center, fostering stable coordination between local administrations and regional and national institutions.”.
A central passage of the intervention concerned the topic of the training of officials and staff of local authorities, considered essential to enable municipalities to more effectively address the new administrative and planning challenges related to the development of the Blue Economy and the sustainable management of coastal resources. Di Rocco highlighted that ANCI Lazio is committed to promoting training and professional growth paths, indispensable for strengthening the administrative capacity of territories.
During the debate, the announcement regarding the restoration of coordination between the coastal municipalities was also reiterated, described as a strategic instrument to promote shared planning and a stronger representation of the interests of the Lazio coastal area. This coordination aims to strengthen collaboration between local administrations on issues such as sustainability, the enhancement of maritime heritage, fishing, and economic development linked to the sea.
The meeting was also attended by Mayor Cristian Leccese, who emphasized the value of opportunities for dialogue such as the one hosted in Gaeta, a city that is increasingly at the center of regional debate on sea policies and the valorization of coastal communities.
The event represented an important moment of dialogue between institutions, administrators and operators in the sector, confirming the centrality of the port system and maritime policies in the development of Lazio and in strengthening territorial networks among the coastal municipalities.
