With the XIV edition of “The Future Geographers Design Accessibility”, FIABA ETS and the National Council of Geographers and Graduate Geographers (CNGeGL) renew their commitment to promoting a culture of inclusive design and the removal of architectural barriers.
The award ceremony of the XIV edition will take place on June 4, 2026 at 11:00 a.m., at the Trilussa Hall of Cassa Geometri, in via Luisa di Savoia 17 in Rome.
The initiative involves students from the CAT – Costruzioni, Ambiente e Territorio – Technical Institutes, who are called upon to design interventions to remove architectural barriers and innovative solutions inspired by the principles of Universal Design. This training program has, over the years, helped raise awareness among thousands of young designers about the issues of inclusion, the usability of public spaces, and accessible design.
According to FIABA ETS, the competition has been an important initiative for awareness-raising and the dissemination of accessibility culture for over thirteen years, involving schools throughout Italy through concrete projects capable of improving the quality of life in the territories.
During previous editions, hundreds of projects dedicated to urban redevelopment and the accessibility of schools, parks, promenades, historic buildings, and public spaces were presented. This work allowed students to directly confront real-world issues and national regulations regarding the removal of architectural barriers.
