80 years ago, in Tremezzo, the welfare state of the Republic was born. In 1946, just a few months before the referendum, the International Conference on Social Welfare marked the transition from charity to rights. It also gave rise to the profession of the social worker.
On October 30 and 31, in the same place, ANCI Lombardia, the Order of Social Workers of Lombardy and the Municipality of Tremezzina brought that debate back to the present with “From Tremezzo to the future: 80 years of the Republic and welfare between rights, policies and territory”.
ANCI Lazio participated in the work with General Secretary Luca Masi. The message concerns all Italian municipalities. The social needs that the State recognizes to the municipalities amount to approximately 5 billion, but the actual spending exceeds 9 billion. It is the mayors who bridge that gap, every day, on the front line. This is why there is a need for genuine socio-health integration and a welfare system built on the territories.
Congratulations to ANCI Lombardia and President Mauro Guerra for turning an anniversary into a work agenda, combining memory, expertise and vision. ANCI Lazio will take advantage of the insights emerging in Tremezzo to strengthen its support for the municipalities of Lazio in social policies.
