A conference dedicated to the organ donation and transplantation, It was a moment of discussion that was widely and heartily attended, involving local administrators, health workers and citizens.
For ANCI Lazio The Secretary General took part in the proceedings Luca Masi, spoke in the debate together with numerous mayors and administrators from the area. Among those present were Stefano Cecchi, Mayor of Marino and Veronica Felici, Mayor of Pomezia, members of the ANCI Lazio Executive, testifying to the Association's concrete focus on a topic of great social relevance.
During the meeting, the need to further strengthen the commitment of municipalities in promoting the culture of donation, through awareness-raising initiatives aimed at citizens. A work that mayors are already carrying out in the territories, but which - as has been stressed several times - is still not enough compared to the size of the problem.
Particularly significant is the figure for the Lazio region, which records beyond 40% of opposition to donation, against a national average of around 25%. Numbers that clearly indicate the need to intensify information and awareness actions, starting with the fundamental role of local administrations.
«Municipalities are the first point of proximity to citizens and also have an important cultural responsibility - declared Luca Masi, Secretary General of ANCI Lazio -. Organ donation is an issue that requires constant work to inform, listen and raise awareness. Mayors are already doing a lot, but a further, shared effort is needed to reduce the level of opposition and build a more widespread and aware culture of donation».
ANCI Lazio thus confirms its commitment to supporting local municipalities also on issues concerning public health and social responsibility, promoting opportunities for discussion and concrete initiatives to support local communities.
