“From Europe to the territories: how to use EU funds for local development” is the title of the important training day dedicated to local administrators in Lazio, promoted by the European Parliament Office in Italy and the European Commission Representation in Italy, strongly desired by the Vice-President of the European Parliament Antonella Sberna.
The initiative, scheduled for Friday 23 January 2026 starting at 9.30 a.m. at the Aula Magna of the University of Tuscia, in via Santa Maria in Gradi 4 in Viterbo, will see the remote intervention of Raffaele Fitto, European Commission executive vice-president for regional and cohesion policy, regional development, cities and reforms, who will speak on the functioning of European policies and the main innovations in support of the territories.
The day will be held in collaboration with ANCI Lazio, Cassa Depositi e Prestiti, the European Investment Bank (EIB), l’University of Tuscia and the Department for European Policies of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers.
“European funds represent a fundamental lever for local development: this will be an opportunity to bring Europe closer to the territories and to strengthen the dialogue with local authorities. The initiative was created precisely to listen to the requests of the territories, and to encourage a more direct link between the opportunities offered by the European Union and the ability of local authorities to transform them into development projects,” says Antonella Sberna, pointing out that the meeting is dedicated to an in-depth analysis of how to access and use European resources.
“Hosting this event in Viterbo is a sign of great attention to our community,” Sberna continues. And he concludes: “I thank all those who have promoted this day, in particular the rector Tiziana Laureti for making the university's spaces available and for supporting this important initiative of discussion.
The training day will be attended by authoritative representatives from European, national and regional institutions, academia and local authorities. The proceedings will be opened by the institutional greetings of Tiziana Laureti, Rector of the University of Tuscia, Antonella Sberna, Vice-President of the European Parliament, Mauro Rotelli, president of the Environment, Territory and Public Works Commission of the Chamber of Deputies, Roberta Angelilli, Vice-President of the Lazio Region, Carlo Corazza, director of the European Parliament Office in Italy, Laura Cavallo, coordinator of the European Affairs Office of the Department for European Affairs of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, and Riccardo Varone, vice-president of ANCI Lazio.
This will be followed by two panels entitled “European Funds and Financing as a Development Engine for Local Governments” (11.20 a.m.) and “Cohesion Policies and Direct Funds as a way of tapping additional resources for the development of territories” (2.15 p.m.).
The conclusions will then be entrusted to Daniele Sinibaldi, president of ANCI Lazio, and Enrico Maria Mosconi, full professor at the DEIM Department of the University of Tuscia.
