(Rome, 17 Apr.) – ANCI Lazio welcomes the approval by the Lazio Region of the new Multi-year Urban Security Plan, which defines criteria and directives for the promotion of an integrated security system on a regional scale.
The Plan provides for a total allocation of €6.5 million for local authorities to support targeted interventions aimed at strengthening territorial control, preventing and combating urban incivility and degradation, as well as reducing the risks associated with widespread and predatory crime. Among the objectives are also the improvement of the quality of public spaces, their revitalisation, and the reduction of the sense of insecurity perceived by citizens.
As part of the operational measures, the forthcoming publication of the “Sicurezza in Comune” (Safety in the Municipality) tender is planned, with a budget of €3.3 million, structured into three lines of intervention: enhancing video surveillance systems in school areas (“Smart School Security”), initiatives for the management and oversight of nightlife areas (“Safe city life”), and urban regeneration and redevelopment projects for social purposes (“Obiettivo decoro” - Aim for Decorum). Further resources will be allocated to Security Pacts, to be defined between the Region and local authorities on specific objectives.
In this context, ANCI Lazio emphasises the central role of municipalities in implementing urban security policies, highlighting the importance of operational tools and partnerships capable of making interventions on the ground more effective.
The Memorandum of Understanding signed between ANCI Lazio and UNIV – National Union of Private Security Companies fits into this perspective, aimed at promoting forms of collaboration between local authorities and private security operators, while respecting institutional competencies and current legislation.
The agreement aims to enhance the contribution of private security as a complementary element within the integrated security system, fostering operational synergies, particularly in urban contexts that are more exposed to degradation or high footfall.
ANCI Lazio reiterates, in conclusion, the need for a coordinated and multi-level approach, founded on collaboration between institutions, public and private entities, and local communities, to respond effectively and sustainably to the growing demand for security in the territories.
